Al Hogan Named Building Official of the Year, Chamber Citizen of the Year
Lyon Township's Building Official Al Hogan has been named Building Official of the Year by the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Southeastern Michigan. Al was recognized for demonstrating the highest degree of service to Lyon Township, the building industry, the BIA, and the community at large during 2008. In addition to that honor, Al has also been named Citizen of the Year by the South Lyon Area Chamber of Commerce.
Troy Powe Named Chamber Volunteer of the Year
Lyon Township DDA member Troy Powe has been named Chamber Volunteer of the Year by the South Lyon Area Chamber of Commerce. Troy owns Wonder Jump and has always been very willing to lend a hand. He is very supportive of various Township events.
John Bell Named Chamber Senior Citizen of the Year
Lyon Township DDA member John Bell has been named Chamber Senior Citizen of the Year by the South Lyon Area Chamber of Commerce. John has been a longtime activist in Lyon Township. He served as chairman of the Planning Commission for several years and was also president of the Library Board. He deserves much credit for getting the library millage passed and has also organized Lyon Township's first annual kite festival. John has volunteered for many different projects and has always kept the best interest of Lyon Township and its residents in mind.
We would like to extend congratulations and thanks to Al, Troy, and John for their ongoing dedication and also commend them on a job well done! We appreciate all that you contribute to Lyon Township and beyond.
Kite Festival Coming to Lyon Township
Go fly a kite! Whether you are new to kites or are a kite enthusiast, there will be something for everyone at the Lyon Township Kite Festival. The festival will take place from 11:00a - 5:00p on Saturday, May 2nd at the James F. Atchison Memorial Park (58000 Grand River, behind the Lyon Township Municipal Center). Admission to the festival is free, and there will also be free kite kits available for children. Experienced kite flyers will be performing demonstrations. There will also be hot dogs, chips, and pop available for purchase. This event is sponsored by the Lyon Township Parks & Recreation Committee. We hope to see you there!
3rd Annual Injured Soldiers Lyon Ride
The mission of Operation Injured Soldiers is to help disabled veterans overcome obstacles and resume a productive and fulfilling life through programs that help them get back into their personal hobbies. The 3rd Annual Injured Soldiers Lyon Ride will be held on Saturday, July 25th at the James F. Atchison Memorial Park. Sign-up for the motorcycle ride will begin at 11:00 a.m. The event will also feature live entertainment, a Guitar Hero competition, food, games, and more. Organizations involved with this event include the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, and the Lyon Township Fire Department. Al Hogan is a member of the Board of Directors for Operation Injured Soldiers and has been instrumental in organizing this event for the past three years. All are encouraged to come out for a fun day in support of a wonderful cause.
Car Show & Swap Meet
Spark Plugs Car Club will be hosting a Car Show & Swap Meet from 9:00a to 2:00p on Sunday, June 28th at the James F. Atchison Memorial Park. There will be awards, door prizes, food vendors, and much more. All makes and models are welcome!

New Restroom at James F. Atchison Memorial Park
A new restroom is currently under construction at James F. Atchison Memorial Park. We hope that this improvement will make spending time at the park more enjoyable.
